"Maple Trees"
As a teenager, the artist lived near Paris, in the Northern suburb
called Oise which is known for its National parks and forests. "Maple Trees" is recalled from a
picnic that reminded the painter of the forests of Ermenonville and
Chantilly. Chantilly was particularly influential because of its
beauty, its castle and the famous French royal hunting parties of the
18th century. In this painting, the fields are cut, it is
Fall. At the edge of the maple trees, we see the mysterious
forest--the strokes are suggestive of a windy afternoon |
